Description
For your consideration is this extraordinary and stunning Rookwood Scenic Vellum Vase by Kataro Shirayamadani. Hewas the Rookwood Pottery's most celebrated decorator, and his works reside in many museums worldwide. Truly a gifted artist, he created the most magnificent art pottery . . . including THIS vase:
Translucent Matte Vellum glaze depicting beautiful tall pines reflected by water's edge. Glazed in soft pastel shades of blue, green, yellow and pink. The shape is most unusual and could very well be one-of-a-kind. It stands nearly 12" high by 6 1/2" wide (4 3/4" at mouth and 4 1/2" at base). There is fine overall crazing and a very tiny, very tight firing line at the rim (see last 2 photos). Spotlessly clean, it looks like it did when it left the factory.
The base is flame marked X (1910), 1665 and V (Vellum). Mr. Shirayamadani signed this vase with his FULL SIGNATURE in Japanese cyphers, not just initials! Plus, this very vase is pictured on page 117 in Warman's Rookwood Pottery by Rago and Clancy. Here is an opportunity for the advanced Rookwood collector to acquire a rare and exceptional vase by their premier artist. Available from a private collection . . . REASONABLE offers will be considered.
