Description
A beautiful example of Rookwood art pottery by one of the top artists, Sarah Sax. Her works are highly sought after and collected throughout the world as well as found in many museums. This particular vase exhibits beautiful white dogwoods on a blue grey/gray background blending down into a bright pink base. The vase stands 8 1/2” tall, 2 1/4” opening and 2 3/4” base. The bottom is clearly marked with the well-known Rookwood logo along with Roman numerals XIV for the year 1914. Also visible is the V for vellum line, shape number 900 C, possibly vase size notation. Sara Sax’s cypher sets off below the above mentioned marks. This vase is in excellent condition, no chips, cracks, damage or repairs. I will mention for accuracy the following: the vase is covered with a fine crazing which is not stained on the body of the piece, under close observation, tiny dark colored spots are visible on the white dogwood petals, scattered, not concentrated in one area, and a couple of very, very faint silver lines can be seen again under close examination. These lines possibly resulted in this vase coming in contact with some form of a silver plate object. None of these issues really detract from the overall beauty of this item. A very unusual color combination seldom seen in the Rookwood pottery market. Please view all pictures as they are considered part of the description. I feel the best method for shipping this vase to be double boxed, fully insured via fedex ground/home delivery. I will be listing this pottery in a buy it now/make offer format.
